Things seem a little different? That’s ’cause I’m 28! Yep, I survived the Janis Joplin/ Jimi Hendrix/ Kurt Cobain curse and lived to see 28. THANK YOU UNIVERSE.
I marked the occasion with my first ever Instagram cake selfie, drinking ciders and watching GIRLS. Also, with this here cake!
Even though this NYT article oh so clearly expresses my feels about birthday celebrations, I have managed to procure the most perfect weekend of festivities with my friends this coming weekend. That is beach (because summer is going nowhere, thanks Sydney), greek food, drinks and dancing.
OKAY, cake. She was thought up from a variety of cakes I have seen on the internet and basically wanted in my belly. The sponge inspo is from Sarah and tahini frosting inspo from Molly. There was a succulent cake I saw on Pinterest once too, so that explains that.
Peaches are from nature (and actually weren’t that nice) and the wooden board is from The Assembly Home. For those playing at home, the top is from country road and the photograph of me is from my brother.
So, another year older and hopefully wiser. Another year surrounded by the most delicious humans in the world. Another year of this blog and you guys and all my bloggy pals. ANOTHER FUCKING AWESOME YEAR.
How I made this cake:
Two times my Vanilla sponge recipe baked separately in a 5 inch cake tin, but I browned the butter by cooking it in a saucepan until brown and foamy.
Tahini frosting was 250g butter, creamed with 500g icing sugar then 2 tsp vanilla bean paste and 1/3 cup of tahini.
I cut the two cakes into two, so I ended up with four layers. I then spread a layer with some buttercream, made a buttercream dam, filled it with sliced peaches then repeated with another layer on top.
I frosted the whole thing and topped with succulents!
