So, I am reigning it in. There has been far too many Snickers Cheesecakes and Bacon Maple Doughnuts happening around here. And not enough virtuous, feel- good baking. Luckily, the folks at Vitality Brands sent me some Well, Naturally No Added Sugar Chocolate to try out. Perfect timing really.

They have recently add No Added Sugar Chocolate Melts to their range. I had tried lots of their chocolate before and really liked it, but hadn’t given the melts a go. I immediately knew I wanted to really put them to the test and find out if they performed like regular chocolate. The ultimate chocolate recipe to do this? The brownie. Made even more ultimate with raspberries and peanut butter. Say hello to the Raspberry Peanut Butter Brownie.

I used my regular brownie recipe, only substituting the chocolate for the Well, Naturally melts and the sugar for stevia. You could use whatever sweetener you prefer. I wanted to keep the sugar content low. You know, considering the recent bacon/maple/snickers adventures.

I have to say I was pretty surprised with the result. Was it exactly like a regular brownie? No. But it was pretty close. Even closer than you would expect a brownie with no added sugar would be. The brownies were dense, rich and moist. The chocolate melted in an identical way to regular chocolate melts and was super easy to work with.

For those of you wondering, what the chocolate it sweetened with, it’s Stevia and Erythritol. Stevia is a natural sweetener that doesn’t play havoc with your blood sugar. If you want to reduce the excess sugar in your diet but simply MUST continue baking, the Well, Naturally melts will not disappoint.

  1. 200g Well, Naturally Dark Chocolate Melts
  2. 140g butter {you could use coconut oil}
  3. 3 eggs
  4. 1 teaspoon of vanilla paste or extract
  5. 3/4 cup of plain flour
  6. Stevia or your favourite sweetener to taste {I used 1/2 cup of Natvia. This will depend on your taste}
  7. 100g of raspberries {fresh or frozen}
  8. 1/4 cup of natural peanut butter
  1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius and line a 20cm round cake tin or 20 x 25cm slice tin with baking paper.
  2. Chop the butter into cubes and add it to a saucepan with the chocolate melts.
  3. Heat on a low heat stirring with a rubber spatula until melted.
  4. Remove from the heat and beat in the eggs and vanilla.
  5. Transfer to a bowl and fold in the flour and stevia.
  6. Pour the batter to the lined tin.
  7. Divide teaspoons of the peanut butter over the batter then swirl with a bamboo skewer or chopstick.
  8. Dot the raspberries over the brownies.

    The first thing that comes to mind is a Chocolate Chip Chilli! I am a huge fan of Nigella Lawson & have a faint memory of seeing her add chocolate chips to a chilli con carne with a devilish grin on her face. I remember at the time thinking it was a strange combination, but doesn’t chocolate make everything taste better? I would love to win this Well Naturally pack so I could give it a go!

    I am drooling just looking at these brownies so I woukd have to make them!!!!!! I also have an amazing recipe for chocolate cheesecake swirl brownies which are divine so let’s see if I could make a “healthy” version of them

    My favourite chocolate creation is chocolate hazelnut mousse. Its amazing and can be made sugar free using this chocolate. But I would also love to make your brownies because they look so dang delicious!

    This is such a gorgeous recipe, loving the chocolate/peanut butter and raspberry combination. I hear you when it comes to reigning it in, it’s been a big few weeks of baking here too and my waistline is starting to pay for it.
